CONDUCTIVE & SHIELDING MATERIALS
EMI Shielding & Conductive Materials
TC Components converts conductive and shielding materials into custom die-cut components for EMI / RFI control, grounding, shielding interfaces and electronic assemblies.

MATERIAL OVERVIEW
Materials for EMI Shielding & Conductive Interfaces
Electromagnetic shielding materials serve different roles in an assembly. The electrical contact, grounding path, compression, available space and finished geometry all inform the material review.
Selection starts with the required interface and project specification. Material form and die-cut construction are considered together, without assuming one material suits every design.
MATERIAL FAMILIES
Different forms for different interfaces.
These are conductive shielding material families for project evaluation. Specific grades, availability and suitability require confirmation against the application.

Conductive Foam
Conductive foam may be considered for a compressible interface where a die-cut part must fit between mating surfaces. Electrical contact and mechanical compression are project requirements to review together.

Conductive Fabric
Conductive fabric may be evaluated as a flexible shielding material in an electronic assembly. Any fabric-over-foam or laminated construction depends on the selected materials and project specification.

EMI Shielding Tape & Conductive Adhesive Materials
Shielding tape or conductive adhesive tape may be reviewed where an adhesive-backed interface and an electrical contact requirement occur in the same construction. Adhesive and contact details require project confirmation.

Metal Foil Materials
Copper or aluminum foil materials may be evaluated for custom conductive, grounding or shielding shapes. Foil type, backing and cut geometry are defined by the assembly rather than a standard tape format.
Ferrite & Magnetic Shielding Materials
Ferrite sheet and other magnetic-control materials may be evaluated when a project calls for electromagnetic noise management. Availability, material specification and converting feasibility must be confirmed before a material is proposed.
MATERIAL SELECTION
Selecting an EMI Shielding Material
Begin with the function and contact interface. A useful selection brief describes the geometry and assembly conditions, not a presumed material winner.

Shielding Function
What interference or interface must be managed?
Electrical Contact
Is conductive contact or grounding required?
Compression
Must the part compress between surfaces?
Thickness
How much space is available?
Adhesive Requirement
Is adhesive backing part of the structure?
Geometry
Which openings or contact areas matter?
Assembly

Environment
What operating conditions need review?
MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION
Material Forms & Constructions
Sheet, fabric, foil, tape and adhesive-backed forms can lead to different component structures. The layer order shown is illustrative, not a universal specification.

MATERIAL / QUALITY REVIEW
Verify the Specified Construction
The drawing and agreed material specification determine the project checks. These may include layer confirmation, thickness review, dimensional inspection and visual inspection.

Shielding material questions.
Practical answers for material selection, construction and quotation planning.
What EMI shielding materials can be die cut?
Conductive foam, conductive fabric, shielding tape and metal foil forms may be evaluated for custom profiles. The specified grade and converting route need project review.
What is conductive foam used for in shielding components?
It may be considered where a component needs a compressible interface together with an electrical contact requirement. The geometry and compression conditions must be defined for the assembly.
Can conductive fabric be laminated before die cutting?
A laminated fabric construction may be evaluated if the selected materials and assembly requirements support it. The layer order and converting feasibility are confirmed for each project.
Can EMI shielding materials include adhesive backing?
Adhesive backing may be part of a specified shielding construction. The adhesive, electrical interface, liner and installation method need to be considered together.
How do I choose between conductive foam, fabric, tape and foil?
Start with the shielding function, electrical contact, compression, thickness, geometry, assembly and operating conditions. A material should not be selected by category name alone.
Can metal foil materials be custom die cut?
Metal foil sheets may be evaluated for custom shapes. Foil type, handling, backing and part geometry determine the appropriate construction and converting review.
Can ferrite or magnetic shielding materials be converted?
Ferrite sheet or other magnetic-control materials can only be considered after material availability, specification and converting feasibility are confirmed for the project. No standard grade is represented here.
What information is needed for an EMI shielding material quotation?
Provide the drawing or sample, shielding requirement, material specification if available, contact area, dimensions, assembly details and estimated quantity.
